  I came to Puerto de la Cruz with my girlfriend to escape the British winter weather. Knowing what Tenerife had to offer on the road bike, I had to have a day climbing Teide. When a 7000ft climb is on offer, you simply can’t miss out.

  We did the long downhill course from the base of the cable car at Teide back to Puerto de la Cruz with Alberto as our guide. The route is quite diverse: we started with some sight seeing and later switched to single tracks alternating with some wider dirt roads. The last part to get back to Puerto is of course through some urban areas, not as exhilerating as the single tracks but still fun to do. On top of that Alberto knows all the nice spots and is also very knowledgeable about the area. The bikes we had were also in good condition and Jesper made sure that they were set up exactly as we preferred. Only point of attention is that it's not very cheap, but considering that if you take your time to enjoy you can easily spend the whole day and that the ride up was also included it's definetely worth it!

  We used a lot of bike rentals in Tenerife and in general on the Canary Islands, but none of them worked so professional and friendly people! I definitely recommend this rental and use it again in the future. Greetings to Alberto and Jesper!

  If you want to hire a road or mountain bike in Puerto de la Cruz, and be taken on a guided tour of the best places to ride across Tenerife, Alberto, Jesper and the team at Ride Base should 110% be your choice. Not only is the shop and equipment superb, but the service and friendliness of the guys is outstanding! They are welcoming, knowledgeable and willing to go above and beyond to make your riding experience the best it can be! And if you’re a strong rider, don’t think for a second you’re going to be able to shake Jesper, because this guy can climb a road bike.

  Ride Base Tenerife was the 3rd place I went to enquire about hiring a bike. I met Alberto the owner first who was extremely helpful and gave me loads of info on the various routes. Then I met Jesper who is the guide for the road cycles. The best decision I made in Tenerife was paying for this service for 4 days, I got to see places that without local knowledge would have not been possible. Jesper is Danish, and speaks perfect English, he's also a very strong cyclist and natural hill climber. It meant that I was able to get some proper training in. Another thing I did while I was there was we availed of there downhil mtb tour off mount Teide which again was great value and one of the best days I can remember. The guide for that is a young guy called Danny, and he was great, so what ever your ability is he will be there with you. A gifted guy on the bike, he speaks native Spanish and is fluent in English and German. The bikes were top quality also. All in all an unbelievable experience, it made my holiday. I couldn't recommend them enough.

  A quick google showed that Ride Base was 2 minutes from my hotel (Be Live Adults Only). I popped in with the thought of hiring a bike, but not knowing the roads made me think about a guided tour. I met Alberto, the owner, on Saturday, who could not have been more welcoming if he tried. I must have been in his shop for at least 30 minutes, chatting all things bikes and which routes he offered (lots of them). But, naturally, the climb to Teide was my choice.

  Wow!!!! Ride Base was recommended by a friend and did not disappoint! Did a days roadbiking with Jesper as a guide. An amazing day out with lots of great scenery. Jesper let us set the pace and knew all the secret places to stop a for refreshments. We also did a days downhill biking with Dani and Alberto. This was really varied and some of the best mountain biking I have ever done. The level of instruction was really good and was adapted to suit the varying needs of our group (novice to expert). Alberto is a absolute legend and did everything possible to make our days with him as enjoyable as possible. I can't rate Alberto and his staff at Ride Base highly enough. Book with them for road, mountain biking or surfing and you won't be disappointed :-)

  All in all, it’s just a shame I could only get out for one day this time. If you have the opportunity, make sure you get down to see these guys and get a ride organised with Ride Base. You won’t regret it!

  He arranged a one on one guided tour with the road bike guide, Jesper, for Monday. I spent the weekend in complete nervous excitement. I needn’t have been nervous as Jesper was absolutely fantastic as a guide, rider (great climber) but most importantly, as a person. We spent the few hours it took to climb the 43km (average 6% gradient) climb chatting (between breaths) about life, bikes and future plans, with a delightful stop at a cafe at 32km. Jesper even treated me to a coffee out of his own pocket, just another lovely touch to a fabulous ride with a great guy. After the final few KMs up Teide’s bizarre lunar landscape to the cable car, we made the long descent back to Puerto de la Cruz, meeting Alberto back at the shop for one more coffee. We spent another 45 minutes chatting before I left to find my girlfriend on the beach.
